Curriculum

We are currently making updates to this page - please bear with us while we change.

The aim of the curriculum at Sandgate Primary is to progressively build knowledge so that all pupils are happy and successful. The curriculum is designed around both substantive and disciplinary knowledge to ensure that pupils develop a deep understanding of all subjects, along with mastery of the practical and theoretical knowledge that comprise each. The curriculum is supported by rigorous assessment approaches that accord all pupils the opportunity to demonstrate what they know and can do, whilst also allowing gaps to be identified and addressed quickly, and with minimal negative impact on further learning or teacher workload.

Values

Our values develop high expectations for every child, empowering them to be successful in their own lives and to contribute positively to the local, national and international community.

  • Compassion
  • Courtesy
  • Determination
  • Equality
  • Friendship
  • Respect

A strong core

At Sandgate Primary, we value all subjects but also understand the critical importance of Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Science. Early reading is supported by Animaphonics, a DfE validated phonics programme, to ensure rapid and rigorous mastery of the English alphabetic code. Sandgate Primary is proud to be a Talk for Writing Training Centre, with the Talk for Writing approach used consistently and progressively to help children find their true authorial voice. Teaching for mastery remains at the heart of our mathematics teaching, supported by daily practice within dedicated arithmetic sessions to secure fluency.
